Police say a heavily pregnant woman who's gone missing from a Sydney hospital may be heading to the Maitland area.

Raquel Akers left the ante-natal unit of the Royal Women's Hospital in Randwick on Monday afternoon.

There are grave concerns for the welfare of the 34 year old and her unborn child.

Police believe she could be heading to the Maitland area or interstate, and are asking the public to look out for her.

Raquel is Caucasian, about 160cm tall, with a slim build, blonde hair and is missing several teeth.

If you see her, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
