The average dog is cleaner than your brothers beard, say scientists.

A new study from the Hirslanden Clinic has found mens’ beards samples were rife with bacteria – with almost half carrying bugs harmful to human health.

The dogs tested, which included dachshunds, collies and German shepherds, showed lower levels of microbes.

Despite this, a study has found Aussie women aren’t overly worried.

A University of Queensland study has found Australian women  deem men with beards more attractive than clean-shaven faces for a long term relationship.

Experts say keeping a beard clean is simple: just wash it with soap and water, twice a day. Who’d have thought?
