But it will be worth it!

You know what they say, too many sweets and you'll get a toothache! The problem is, when it comes to Aussie singer Sarah Saint James, it will be TOTALLY worth it!

Sarah is an independent artist, blazing her way through the music charts in a swirl of all things sticky and sweet with her new single 'Bittersweet'.

We caught up with her to chat about life as an Aussie performer on the rise.

Describe your sound in 4 words?

Four words - boppy, colourful, deep & catchy.

If you were a lolly, what would you be?

I’d be a lemon sherbet! Sweet on the outside, and a little bit spicy on the inside.

Where did the idea of Bittersweet come from?

‘Bittersweet’ actually came from a title, I saw the word on a Billboard in LA and thought it’d make a good song title, then once we got into writing it seemed to just explain my life. It was the perfect metaphor to explain my love life at the time.

Who are your musical icons?

Lady Gaga, Panic! at the Disco, Ariana Grande, Troye Sivan, and Hayley Kiyoko!

What message do you hope your music conveys to people?
Coming from a small town, I want to be an example of what you can do when you feel like the whole world is against you. I want to reach people who feel like they want to escape for 3-4 minutes of their day, with words they feel like they can’t speak or put into words themselves. I think I pride myself in writing super (somewhat brutally) honest music, and just speaking my mind. I hope that comes across!

If you could pick one Aussie act to collab with, who would it be?
Troye Sivan always! Troye is one of my favourite musicians hands down, who just happens to be a fellow Aussie!

Where to from here?
I have a few follow up singles planned for this year, moving to Sydney next month and then off on a two month writing trip to LA. Hopefully establish myself as an artist and reach people through my music.
