Mayor Paul Antonio Backs Federal Budget

Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio says the Governments investment in the Inland Rail project will bring benefits to the Darling Downs.

$8.4 billion will be invested into the Brisbane to Melbourne railway line.  The funding was announced in Tuesday night’s Federal Budget.

Councillor Antonio says the inland rail will cap off the trifecta of transport items in the region.

“It will become that major intermodal hub with the three modes of transport all represented here and that’s something that very few communities can boast.

It represents a tremendous investment, tremendous jobs and stability in those jobs. It represents the capacity to export overseas.

It should represent a major cut in freight costs and that has been something that has been holding us back.”
