A Sydney man was ordered to pay $100,000 for illegal dumping on the Central Coast.

The man was issued the fine after pleading guilty to ditching more than 21,000 tonnes worth of concrete, car parts, timber, plastic and asbestos at Spencer, but was tipped to fork out even more in order to pay the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s $80,000 investigation cost and legal fees.

Continuous illegal dumping in the Central Coast and Hunter regions lead to the creation of the Regional Illegal Dumping Squad (RID) in 2014, which aimed to reduce the costs of illegal dumping and build capacity in the region.

The RID Squad had recently concluded an 18-month investigation of a 43-year-old Gosford man who had dumped 10 tonnes of waste across Morisset, Cessnock, Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast.

Similarly to the man charged on Friday, the Gosford man was issued a substantial fee, being ordered to pay $90,000 for the ordeal.
