Police have charged a 38-year-old man with the attempted murder of a police officer after allegedly stabbing an officer in the chin on Thursday.

Police were called out to a River Terrace home in Kangaroo Point at around 11AM on Thursday acting on a search warrant.

Upon entering the property, a man is alleged to have lunged at a senior constable, stabbing him in the chin with a knife.

Police are then alleged to have warned the man to drop his weapon, before shooting a single shot at the man who failed to comply.

The accused was then transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery for a gunshot wound and was treated for minor injuries to his hands. 

The police officer was transported to hospital for treatment of a stab wound to the chin and has since been sent home.

Police have charged the 38-year-old man with attempted murder and two counts of serious assault police.

The man faced Brisbane Magistrates Court via weblink today and is set to face court again on October 10.
