Man Charged After Allegations He Secretly Filmed Woman In Hostel Bathroom

A man has been charged after his roommate discovered a camera hidden in a shared bathroom at Bondi Beach overnight, say NSW police.

The woman, who was on holiday from France was allocated a room at a hostel, sharing the bathroom with a man unknown to her.

Late last night the woman finished showering when she noticed a toilet bag on the sink, and noticed a small camera hidden within a deodorant stick.

She took photos of the device then contacted officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command.

Police attended the scene and arrested a 36-year-old man, who was on holiday in Australia from Hong Kong.  Police will allege the remnants of a smashed camera were found when the man was searched. They also found numerous hard drives and storage devices which police will allege contained further videos of women in private acts.

He has been charged with installing a surveillance device intended for unlawful use and has been refused bail.
