Lake Macquarie police are investigating two unusual vehicle thefts, and they're after our help to find them.

A trailer with a mini-excavator on it was stolen from Baker Street, Dora Creek last Saturday morning.

It appears two men cut the lock attacked to the trailer, before attaching it to their own vehicle and driving away.

The men may have been driving a silver or light-coloured ute, similar to a Toyota Hilux.

Police believe the Kubota U17 excavator may still be in the Toronto area.

An investigation is also underway into the theft of an All Terrain Vehicle from West Wallsend Colliery.

An unknown number of people broke in last weekend, stealing the 2012 yellow Argo amphibian utility vehicle, an engine and other items.

The vehicle has Queensland registration 18443C.

Anyone with information about either thefts is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
