With overseas and interstate travel on hold, holidaying in NSW is our only option. But with pristine beaches, country cottages and outback adventures, we are spoilt for choice with so many amazing destinations.

It is time to enter Mudgee into your GPS.

A gorgeous country town around 3-4 hours’ drive from Sydney, I had never visited this place and after spending a weekend there, I am already planning my next visit. I was simply blown away!!!!!

The wide-open space, green paddocks, fresh air, amazing produce, and friendly locals make Mudgee so special.

My husband and two best mates rented a cute AirBnB in the heart of town. As we settled in, we were greeted with that special Mudgee hospitality. Our host, Sue, left a massive cheese and fruit platter, complete with crackers and local red wine, to welcome us to town.

That was the start of a weekend packed with the best produce our state has to offer. Mudgee is famous for wine. Its climate, soil and location make it a prime location for some of Australia's best! Here are some of the wineries to add to your list:

Moothi Estate

Beautiful views over the winery with full flavoured reds and light whites plus enormous food platters! Combined, you get the perfect arvo worthy of an Instagram post.

Short Sheep Winery

A cute micro-winery which is surrounded by sheep! The owner, Tony, is passionate about making wine that pairs perfectly with food and educating you on what goes best with your palette. Just $10 will get you a wine tasting + a platter that will blow your mind!

Logan Wines

Located about 15kms from town. This stunning location has uninterrupted views across the family’s winery with gorgeous wine and staff.

Huntington Estate

They are famous for reds and are consistently rated a Halliday 5-star winery.

Burnbrae Wines

Walking into their cellar door is like stepping back in time! Burnbrae is one of the oldest wineries in the region and worth a visit.

Baker Williams Distillery

Taste handcrafted spirits and liqueurs focusing on regional flavours and influence… Think Gin and Butterscotch like you’ve never tasted before!

Now, onto the FOOD!

There is no shortage of delicious, world-class food in Mudgee. With an abundance of fresh produce, there is a reason why foodies froth over this place! From cute cosy cafes, pubs and chef-hatted restaurants, there is something for everyone.

For the ultimate dining experience, book a degustation at Zin House. You will receive 5 courses of the most incredibly tasty food which you can pair with local wine if you like! The staff add to the whole experience, making you feel like you are dining in a fancy overseas restaurant!!!

After a good pub feed? The Oriental Hotel in the heart of town is a must. From simple schnittys, famous roasts, steaks, salads, burgers and pizzas, the menu at the Ori has it all. They also have a Gin and Vodka menu where you can create your own drink. Pick your drink + mixer + garnish. Heaven!

If you are after a weekend experiencing the state’s best food, wine, and service, the Mudgee region is a must.
