A man has been charged after he reversed his ute into a police car while trying to escape arrest over domestic violence matters in Jewells.

It's alleged a 40-year-old drove his Holden Colorado into the squad car after police attended a home on the Pacific Highway at around 10am this morning.

An officer suffered minor injuries during the collision but didn't require treatment.

The accused has been handed conditional bail ahead facing Belmont Local Court on July 19.
