Sunday is International Womens Day and the theme is #Eachforequal. We spoke with amazing local Far North Queensland Women doing amazing things locally and internationally! 

COUNCILLOR CATHY ZEIGER – She has been the Division 3 Councillor for Bayview Heights, Forest Gardens/Mount Sheridan, White Rock and Woree since March 2015. She is the Founder of Boldly I Go Inc., a charity focused on improving quality of life and providing opportunities to empower others in Kenya.

DR HAYLEY LETSON - Is a medical researcher. She recently completed a TED X talk where she spoke about how her research and a drug she has helped developed is being used currently with the american military and how it has the power to save millions of lives.

YOLONDE ENTSCH - Is a local woman making a difference. Last year she launched The Yarning Place it has been set up in the Cairns Villa and Leisure Park at Manoora to provide a safe place for women most at danger of falling victim to abuse. She is also in the the executive producer of the documentary A Womans Calling which focuses on The women of Doomadgee finding a purpose which is helping others worse off than them by supporting young girls in Papua New Guinea.

KAREENA WHITE AND JEN "BON BON" DAMON  - Coach and president of the Manunda Hawks womens AFL team.

ZARA HARTMANN - She was recently nominated for Cairns Surf Life Saving Clubs 2020 Surf Girl. She was school captain of St Monica's and is passionate about encouraging women into Surf Lifesaving and is currently completing a bachelor of aviation. 

LARA AND LILLIAN GRAVES - Lara is a transgender woman and Lillian her wife supported her through her transition. 

EVA WRHOVINA -  Is apart of eXXpedition it is a series of all women voyages to make the unseen seen, from the toxics in our bodies to the toxics in our seas. On the 16th of November 2014 eXXpedition launched the first mission with a crew of 14 women setting sail across the Atlantic Ocean in search of answers relating to the health of our environment and to the health of our bodies. In may of this year she along with 10 women will be setting sail from Fiji to Vanuatu.

KRISTA WATKINS - is the Managing Director of Natural Evolution she is a tablelands girl who had the bright idea of turning wasted green bananas into banana flour which saw her win the National Rural Women’s Award in 2018. She is passionate about sustainability you know the saying turn lemons into lemonade well she has literally done that with sweet potatoes and vodka! After seeing all the wasted sweet potatoes famers were throwing out she saw an opportunity and has launched the first sweet potato vodka in Australia.
