Attending a Dawn Service to commemorate Anzac Day is a special Australian tradition.

If you're thinking of attending the Dawn Service in, you'll want to make sure you've planned ahead. 

Timings:

Anzac Day Service: 6.00am-6.30am

Anzac Day March: 8.30am

Commemorative Service: directly after the end of the march

 

Getting there

The Shrine of Remembrance organisation recommends arriving between 4am-5am.

PTV have added early train and tram services on all routes from as early as 3.49am. There will also be a free bus shuttle from selected RSLs. Go to the PTV website for more information.

Veterans and war widows are offered free travel on Victoria’s public transport network with the presentation of either their uniform, medals, an ex-service association or returned from active service or war widows badge, their DVA Gold or White card and/or their category “V” Victorian Public Transport Concession Card.

Australian Defence Force members, Scouts, Guides and School Students are also eligible provided they are in their uniforms.

 

Road closures 

St Kilda Road will be closed to traffic from 12am-2pm, around the Shrine of Remembrance and Botanic Gardens.

Parts of Elizabeth Street, Collins Street and Flinders Street will close for the 8.30am Anzac Day March.

Most roads will reopen by 2pm to make way for the Anzac Day football match between Collingwood and Essendon.
