Here Are The Roads To Avoid During The Ekka

If you're busy preparing to head to the EKKA this year, or maybe you're not a show person and are happy just going about your daily life, you're probably going to want to know about the traffic changes and road closures that are coming up in the next few weeks.

The Brisbane City Council has advised which roads will be closed during the Royal Queensland Show 2018 from 1am Monday 30 July until 11.30pm Thursday 23 August, so expect some congestion in and around these areas:

Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills, between Costin Street and Brookes Street; King St, Bowen Hills, between Machinery Street and Gregory Terrace; One lane on Gregory Terrace between Bowen Bridge Road and Warry Street.

Exhibition Street in Bowen Hills will also be reduced to one way from Gregory Terrace, with no access from St Pauls Terrace from 1am Monday 30 July until 11.30pm Thursday 23 August.

The following roads will also be closed from 1am Monday 6 August to 3am Tuesday 21 August:

Parking lane closures on O’Connell Terrace between Bowen Bridge Road and Brooke Street; Westbound traffic lane closures on O’Connell Terrace between Bowen Bridge Road and Brooke Street; Contra flow on Gregory Terrace between Bowen Bridge Road to Anderson Street, with a left in and left out system.

O’Connell Terrace in Bowen Hills, between Brookes Street and Bowen Bridge Road, will also be closed to eastbound traffic from 5am to 9.30am Sunday 12 August.

Gregory Terrace, between Bowen Bridge Road to Brooks Street will become a No Standing Tow-Away Zone between 30 July and 23 August and O’Connell Terrace, between Tufton Street and Hamilton Place (northern side), will also become a No Standing Tow-Away Zone between 2 August and 23 August.

Passenger pick up/drop off zones for the event shall be established in Costin Street with disability pick up/drop off zones also being established in Costin Street, Machinery Street and O’Connell Terrace.

Taxi Zones will be established on O’Connell Terrace and Costin Street, an Uber rank will be established on Machinery Street with access from St Paul’s Terrace into King Street and EKKA buses shall run to and from the Herston Busway Station.

Traffic controllers and detour signage will be in place to assist motorists, buses and pedestrians so, at least you'll have a bit of help navigating these extensive changes.
