Motorists travelling over the June long weekend are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, with heavy traffic expected on roads heading away from Sydney and towards the snowfields.

Heavy traffic is expected on the Hume Motorway, Hume Highway, Federal Highway, Monaro Highway, Snowy Mountains Highway, Kosciuszko Road and Alpine Way.

Motorists travelling on the M1 Princes Motorway and Princes Highway in the Illawarra and South Coast and the M1 Pacific Motorway and Pacific Highway through the Central Coast and Hunter should plan their trip as heavy traffic is also expected.

Major Sydney roadwork will also be carried out across the weekend at South Penrith and Frenchs Forest so motorists should plan their journey and allow extra time.

The M4 Motorway at The Northern Road at South Penrith will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday the 7th of June until 4am on Tuesday the 11th of June to remove the existing old bridge over the motorway.

During the closure, traffic will be diverted up and over The Northern Road interchange ramps. An alternative detour will also be in place via the Great Western Highway as well. Motorists are advised to follow directions of traffic controllers on site.

The Wakehurst Parkway will be closed between Warringah Road and Aquatic Drive at Frenchs Forest from 8pm on Friday 7 June until 5am Tuesday 11 June as part of the Northern Beaches Hospital road upgrade.

Northbound traffic will be diverted into Aquatic Drive, while southbound traffic will divert via Warringah Road and Pittwater Road instead. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, follow directions of traffic crews and allow extra time through the area.
