After years of waiting, arguably the biggest Broadway production of the decade, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is finally playing at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne!

For those who haven't heard of it, Hamilton is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary.

Blending hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton's score tells 'the story of America then, as told by America now'.

Hamilton first premiered on Broadway in August 2015 and took home 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Since then, it's gone on to perform in San Francisco, Chicago, on tour in the US and in London’s West End, and finally down under!

We were lucky enough to sit down with Australian cast members Jason Arrow (Alexander Hamilton), Chloe Zuel (Eliza Hamilton) and Lyndon Watts (Aaron Burr) who told us exactly what we can expect from the Melbourne show!

For Melburnians who are less familiar with the historical background of the show, Arrow, who plays star of the show, Alexander Hamilton suggested to read a 'short synopsis' beforehand.

"The only reason I would say that is because the show is very fast and from the very beginning you start to get an idea of how quick things are," he revealed.

"My suggestion would be to first watch on Disney+ or read a short synopsis just to get a vague idea of what’s going on!"

On what about Hamilton that drives audiences and its devoted fans crazy, Zuel revealed "It’s got to be the genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda."

"When it came out, there was nothing like it."

"It was revolutionary in its casting, its style of story telling, and musical theatre has never been done like this before."

Even if you haven't seen the show, there's no doubt you would have heard some of its iconic soundtrack, and we asked Watts which song gets the crowd going the most.

"I'd have to say "The Room Where It Happens," he proudly revealed.

"Its a bit of a roof-lifter that definitely gets people excited and riled up!"
