The federal government has come under fire for paying social media stars to promote health, with a News Corp investigation revealing that more than $600,000 has been spent on 'influencers' in the past 18 months.
This comes as a part of the Girls Make Your Move campaign, encouraging women to exercise.
It was revealed that several of the influencers were paid up to $3,000 for a post - and the selection of candidates also chosen has raised a subsequent issue.
According to the report, one of the Instagrammers is an ambassador for an alcohol brand, with the feed filled with posts about beer and bubbly.
One influencer had to apologise for previous posting racists tweets, and another previously made videos about intermittent fasting and weight loss.
Health Minister Greg Hunt's spokesperson has said that the Minister does not endorse these posts, and a review of the use of influencers is underway.
The relevance of some of the influencers has also been called into question, with some shown to not have a very broad reach on social media.
