Gold Coast City Council is pushing ahead with its plan to introduce a new ferry service for the city.

Mayor Tom Tate called for nation-wide expressions of interests for an operator on Friday to make the project a reality, which would include 14 ferry stops along the Nerang River and the Broadwater.

Ferry operators have from tomorrow until April 26 to put their hands up for tender.

The news comes ahead of a planned trial at the end of 2019, which must involve a service running between five stops, from HOTA at Evandale through to Sea World.

Details of the tender must also include at least three vessels and operation seven days a week over two years.

It is expected to carry up to 700 passengers a day from 7am to 9pm.
