Locals are being assured green space won't be replaced with carparks when the HOTA Gallery opens at the beginning of 2021.

An extra 3500 square metres of gardens are being added to the cultural precinct at Evandale without losing any carparking bays.

The carpark should be complete early next year.

While a pedestrian bridge from Chevron Island will be a big drawcard for "selfies".

"You're walking across, you've got the water reflection from the buildings with all the beautiful lights--that's creative art by human," said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
