A girl has almost come into contact with a deadly blue-ringed octopus at an Australian beach.

The girl had been playing on a west Australian beach, and took a haul of shells home to her aunt.

It was only when she got home that her aunt noticed the small, but deadly creature hiding inside a shell.

Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club posted a photo of the creature on Facebook, warning beach-goers to be careful.

“A good reminder… about keeping watch of what your little people are collecting,” the post said.

“They look beautiful… but a bite can be deadly”.
