A former Scoutmaster has been extradited from the Gold Coast and charged with historical sexual assault offences.

New South Wales police claim the 75-year-old was arrested at a Southport medical practice on Tuesday, before being taken to Tweed Heads Police Station today to be charged.

It is alleged he sexually abused three boys, aged 12 at the time, while working as a Scoutmaster in Sydney during the 1960s.

Investigators were granted the man's extradition in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday before he was escorted across the border.
