A fire bombing aircraft, known as "Christine", was involved in a crash yesterday while battling fire activity over the Thomson Complex Catchment.

The three occupants on board, two pilots and an engineer, managed to safely swim out of the water where they were then assessed by an ambulance crew.

It is understood the aircrane was refilling near Aberfeldy at the time of the incident.

Authorities are now enacting contingency plans to ensure Victoria has adequate aircraft coverage over the Thomson Catchment Complex fires and other blazes in the state.
