Dumping AsbestosĀ just got a whole lot more expensive in New South Wales.
Laws just passed by the NSW Government sees the fines increased to $500,000 for individuals, and $2 million for companies.
Environment Minister Gabrielle Upton told the Hit Newsroom new laws make it a serious stand alone offence.
"Abestos dumping is simply not acceptable," she said.
"It impacts seriously on people's health and the environment, and that's why these fines for illegal dumping are at the highest levels under the law now."
Ms Upton added the massive fine hike comes on top recently announced tougher asbestos handling controls for waste facilities.
