Refuses fine for 12 months probation

A drunk man, blind in one eye, who scaled the Heritage Bank building after a celebrating a friend’s engagement in the CBD, has refused a fine and opted to take a 12-month sentence instead.

CCTV reveals the man, who had been asked to leave the premises where the engagement celebration was taking place, walking through the CBD before he scaled the exterior of the Heritage Bank building.

The Chronicle also reports that people who saw the incident told police that the man had appeared to lose his footing on several occasions before he was found hiding on the roof of the building around 11:20pm.

Prior to this incident, the offender had been sentenced by a court on two other occasions including a $2000 fine in 2016 for public nuisance and obstruct police charges.

The 25-year-old man pleaded guilty to unregulated high-risk activities, obstruct police and public nuisance.

Due to the fact that he is unable to complete community service due to his employment as a fencer, he was sentenced to 12 months’ probation with conditions including:

  • he cannot be drunk and
  • he must pass random breath tests

Convictions were recorded.
