A perfectly preserved frozen lion cub was found in Serbia and is now believed to be 28, 000 years old.

The cub has been nicknamed Sparta and was historically one of two baby cave lions that roamed the northern hemisphere.

Both cubs were found a few years ago by mammoth tusk hunters in Russia on the banks of the Semyuelyakh River and are believed to have been related.

However, a new study showed Sparta and Boris (the second cub) were around 1500 years apart.

Boris is believed to have been over 43, 000 years old, and is in worse condition.

While Sparta has a bit of rough and muddy fur, her teeth, whiskers, and organs are all still intact.

It is still unclear how both cubs perished, but a study found they were only aged 1-2 months old at the time.

The DNA sequencing is still being examined, which in time is presumed to determine the evolutionary history of this cave lion.
