Bring on the beer, pretzels and pork knuckles!

Oktoberfest is back for it’s 55th year, with heaps of surprises and fun in store.

This will be the second year Oktoberfest Canberra has been held across the border in Queanbeyan, less than 10km’s from its original venue at the Harmonie German Club.

Despite the location change, 7000 people came through the gate last year.

Crowds came from places like Cooma, Jindabyne, Wollongong, Sydney, Bungendore, Woden, Tuggeranong and Civic.

And it’s no surprise – given there’s more than a tonne of pork knuckles, 180 barrels of German beer, 4500 bottles of German beer, 4000 sausages and 2700 pretzels up for grabs!

Visitors can also enjoy traditional German food, dancing and free amusement rides.

There’s also a range of competitions like Beardmeister, Miss Oktoberfest, Strong Man and Fingerhakeln.

And for those wanting to knock back a few steins, there’s free buses from Canberra City, Tuggeranong, Woden and Bungendore!

So what’s on the agenda across the three jam-packed days?

Friday night celebrates the official tapping of the keg! There’ll be heaps of entertainment with the beer hall in full swing.

Saturday is the biggest Oktoberfest day with rides, competitions, food and so much more!

Sunday is Family and Market day with tonnes of things to entertain kids big and small! Visitors can enjoy stacks of food, face painting, games – the list goes on.

“So many people have told us it is the closest to the genuine Munich Weisn they have experienced in Australia. This year, we are going to recreate that experience – with a few surprises we think people will be very excited by,” Harmonie German Club President, Kevin Bramboeck, said.
