Passengers heading to Sydney Airport today are advised to expect delays following Thursday's storm.

Large hailstones, heavy rain and strong winds caused havoc across the city, with at least 40 flights affected both domestically and internationally at Sydney Airport.

"Currently in the T2 terminal we have had seven arrivals cancelled and nine departures cancelled," an airport spokesperson said.

"In the T1 terminal we have had two cancellations and a small number of delays. But passengers should check with their airline for further information."

Anyone with a flight is advised to check with their airline for any delays.

And if you're planning your trip to the airport, use real-time transport apps to ensure that relevant public transport is not still experiencing delays in the aftermath.

This comes after some train issues following the destructive storm.
