The Dietitians Association of Australia is calling for an update to the National Nutrition Policy.

This comes after an examination of the toll that poor nutrition is having on health across the country in the report Nourish Not Neglect: Putting health on our nation's table, with less than one per cent of the population found to be adhering to standards set in the current guidelines.

There has been a rise of more than 10 per cent in the number of adults that are overweight or obese.

Furthermore, over 67 per cent of adults are overweight or obese, with this number expected to rise in the coming years.

The last revision to the National Nutrition Policy was some 26 years ago, with a push for a revised policy to look at the state of nutrition in aged care meals and school canteens.
