The Bureau Of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for Southeast Queensland due to an incoming storm cell.

The cell, which is due to hit the coast this afternoon, was predicted earlier this morning with severe winds, rain and potential hail on the horizon.

The weather warning was issues at 3:27 pm today and is as follows:

"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gympie, Ipswich, Gatton, Cherbourg, Beaudesert, Gin Gin, Jimboomba, Kilcoy, Laidley, Lowood, Mount Tamborine and Nanango."

Although Brisbane is not currently in the warning area, it may be included in a later warning due for release at 6:30pm.

Residents are advised to move cars away from trees or under cover, secure loose outdoor items, seek shelter, avoid using telephones and to stay away from fallen powerlines.
