Brisbane's Lifeline Bookfest Returns
And They Want Volunteers!

Brisbane’s Lifeline Bookfest returns in 2021 after a noticeable absence last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event, which will occupy three halls of the Brisbane Convention Centre, is set to run from June 26 through to July 4.
The importance of these events could not be overstated, as the profits from the Bookfests are used to fund Lifeline’s call service, which had a 40% increase in demand since the beginning of 2020.
“We’re hoping to have sales around $1.5 million, which is not an easy feat to achieve but that’s the sort of revenue that we need to help continue to fund our crisis support line,” said Lifeline’s Queensland Retail General Manager, Jamie MacKay.
To assure that Bookfest could operate 2021, organisers had to assure that Covid-safe standards were met. That meant introducing cashless transactions, QR codes at entryways and asking attendees to bring their own bags to assure that cross-contamination is kept to a minimum.
Running the Lifeline Bookfest is expected require the involvement of at least 2,000 volunteers.
“You’ll meet a lot of great people and it’s a great experience,” said Lina Weise, a previous volunteer, “The energy that comes out of it is amazing because people who come to this love books and they love helping people, so the atmosphere is amazing.”
“Without the kindness of the Queensland community and the Brisbane community, this event couldn’t take place.”
