BREAKING: Queensland Nickel Explosion

There are reports of an explosion at Clive Palmer’s troubled Nickel refinery in Yabulu.

While there are no reported injuries at this stage, it is believed that the top of a roaster stack has been blown off.

UPDATE: The Townsville Bulletin reports that a Spokesperson for FTI Consulting, administrators for the refinery confirmed a "minor explosion." 

“The incident is believed to have occurred from accumulation of un-combusted hydrocarbons during an oil burner light-off sequence and follows a period where the roaster was shut down.

“The minor explosion was fully contained using pressure release mechanisms designed into the roaster.”
