A blogger has avoided jail after defacing the memorial of Eurydice Dixon days after she was sexually assaulted and murdered at Princes Park.

Andrew Nolch, 29, pleaded guilty last Thursday to criminal damage after he painted a 25m penis on the grounds of the park the night before a public vigil was to be held.

The presiding magistrate labelled the actions "despicable" and sentenced Mr Nolch to 18 months of community corrections including 200 hours of community service.

"The emotional damage of your conduct is immeasurable," the magistrate said during sentencing.

"Your conduct, in my view, is inexplicable and your actions despicable."

Mr Nolch must also pay $19,500 in restitution.
