A massive final day of the AFL Trade Period has set the Gold Coast Suns up for a massive raid on the upcoming draft, while losing 439 games worth of experience in the process.

Captain Steven May was traded to Melbourne along with former top 10 draft pick Kade Kolodjashnij in exchange for the No.6 pick on Wednesday.

It's in addition to their No.2 and No.3 draft selections, with some considering the current crop of emerging players once in a decade.

Over the 2018 Trade Period the club also lost Tom Lynch to Richmond, Aaron Hall to North Melbourne and Jack Scrimshaw to Hawthorn, leaving a gaping hole of experience.

However Gold Coast did secure the services of Port Adelaide defender Jack Hombsch in exchange for a fourth-round pick in next year's AFL Draft, in a bid to ease the absence of May.
