After 10 months under Police observation, an Adelaide TAFE student has been charged with being a member of ISIL.

The 22 year old Somalian-born woman was handcuffed yesterday for communicating with other ISIL members in Kenya.

Police will allege in court that she cultivated relationships with Islamic State members as well as pledging her allegiance to the terrorist group.

She's expected to fight the allegations, while facing 10 years behind bars is found guilty of the charges.

The western suburbs resident says she's been unfairly targeted.

Her identity's been suppressed until another court appearance in August.

Agencies say the charge doesn't mean she was planning a terrorist attack and that there are no current threats to SA or the rest of the country.
