A man is expected to undergo surgery after allegedly being stabbed with a bottle in Penrith.

The 45-year-old was found on Station Street around 6:30pm on Sunday night, suffering wounds to his chest and shoulder.

Police say a broken glass bottle was found at the scene of the incident.

A 43-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Penrith Police Station.

He was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The Kingswood man was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today.
