As the weather heats up we're being reminded not to drink our calories.

A $1 frozen drink could seem like a fun and harmless way to treat yourself and your family, but with some options containing up to 20 teaspoons of sugar, LiveLighter WA says think again.

World Health Organisation guidelines recommend a maximum of 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day, and with more than double that amount, frozen drinks are now under fire from the Cancer Council.

Cancer Council WA's LiveLighter Campaign Coordinator James Stevens-Cutler said drinking a slushie every day over summer would equate to 7 kilos of added sugar.

"You're basically slurping your way to weight gain, toxic fat around your vital organs , an increased risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers, not to mention tooth decay," he said.
