Body of Missing Man Found

The body of a man, believed to missing person Ian Collett, was located today (21 June 2018) around 9.30am in bushland along Albany Highway near Hakea Road in Ashendon.

The body was located around four metres from the road, by workers in the area. Mr Collett was reported missing on Saturday 19 May 2018 from his Canning Vale Home.

The search for him began on that day, and extended for around 17 days. Altogether, nearly 10,000 hectares and 186 kilometres of roads were searched. Sadly, Mr Collett’s body was located in one of the areas that was previously searched.

Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Collett’s death as a normal part of procedures.  Part of this will include a report being prepared for the Coroner’s consideration. A formal notification process will also be completed.

Traffic on Albany Highway will remain affected in this area for the afternoon as officers continue their examination of the scene. Officers continue to be with the Collett family.

Police would like to acknowledge the significant efforts of those that assisted the WA Police Force in the search, including SES volunteers and members of the public.
