New Headspace Project Seeking Public Support

Headspace together with the wider Townsville community is behind a brand new concept in improving the wellbeing of young people by creating a “Shedspace”.

Similar in concept to the successful “Men’s Shed” model which has proven success in improving the mental health of older men Shedspace will offer all young people a safe place where they can work on arts based projects in wood work, metal work, music, painting, pottery, small motors, bicycle and scooter maintenance.

A public meeting will be held on Wednesday 8th of March calling for support from builders, tradespeople and interested parties to offer discounted or free labour, materials and services to the space to have it ready to deliver programs by September this year.

Cowboy - Michael Morgan, long term headspace volunteer and State of Mind Ambassador is also in full support of Shedspace.

“Michael Morgan provides a great role model for young people going through a tough time. He is not afraid to talk about mental health and ways young people can actively improve their mental health. His determination on the field and the respect he holds within the community really helps to reduce the stigma of mental health problems and young people seeking help” said Kirsten Seymour the Headspace Centre Manager.
