The most popular surnames in Sydney really do show off how beautifully multicultural this city is.
New data from Sensis (the same company that owns the White Pages) has revealed the top 12 surnames in Sydney.
As you can probably guess, Smith is the most common surname. Some other Anglo-Celtic surnames make a showing as well, such as Brown, Young and Williams.
As people from around the world have migrated, the most popular surnames have changed. Nguyen, Li, Wang, Chan, Chen, Singh and Patel come up as the most popular in some suburbs. Nguyen dominates Sydney’s south-west while Lee is most popular in Ryde and Eastwood. Kim is concentrated around Strathfield and Concord areas.
