That's a lot of seaweed

Northern Beaches Council has warned beachgoers to avoid one particular stretch of sand for a few days after metres of seaweed washed ashore.

With a photo of a lifeguard for scale, the Council explained that the seaweed would eventually wash away but, until then, swimmers should pick another spot to enjoy the long weekend.

"Collaroy Beach is closed and may be closed this long weekend due to large amounts of seaweed (1-2 metres in some parts!)," they wrote.

"This is a completely natural occurrence and we understand it can be smelly and unsightly but seaweed is a food source, home and shelter to many amazing sea creatures.

"It's likely much of the seaweed will be removed by the high tides over the next few days but we're keeping an eye on it and will open the beach as soon as we can."

Might be worth a trip north to Narrabeen Beach then!
