A man has been hit and killed by a garbage truck in inner Sydney, with the City council to investigate the incident.
NSW Ambulance officers rushed to Bourke Lane in Redfern just after 7.45am this morning, to find the man trapped under the truck with critical injuries.
The man, whose age is unknown, was treated at the scene but couldn't be saved, police said.
The garbage truck driver, believed to be in his 30s, will be taken to St Vincent's Hospital for mandatory testing, police said.
The City of Sydney council released a statement following the 'tragic accident', offering its condolences to family and friends of the victim.
"The City maintains rigorous safety standards and will ensure a full and thorough investigation to determine what has caused the incident," the statement said.
