Government Drops Plans To Knock Down ANZ Stadium

The NSW Government has backed down regarding the stadium overhaul originally slated for Sydney.

It is understood that a compromise was reached in Cabinet this morning, with it decided to abandon the rebuild of ANZ Stadium at Olympic Park, and instead just refurbish.

This will likely cost $800 million, involving a rectangular stadium.

The knock down and rebuild of Allianz Stadium is set to go ahead, with a new 40,000 seater to replace the current ground at Moore Park.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg and ALRC Chairman Peter Beattie will make a statement on the change later today.

According to Nine News, the NRL committed to playing 25 grand finals at the ground but only if the full rebuild took place.
