There's a fee behind the CTP Green Slip refund, with motorists slogged with an administration charge while trying to lodge their claim.
According to Service NSW, there is a "minimum refund amount of $10 and each refund is subject to an administration fee".
The amount refunded varies, with the average motorist typically in for a $70 return.
It is capped at $125 for private vehicles, however there are some which are just on the $10 mark, and the administration fee then prevents this refund from getting to you hip pocket.
Opposition spokesperson for innovation and better regulation Yasmin Catley has estimated that this $10 fee will result in $40 million for the Berejiklian government.
The $7.87 administration was confirmed to Fairfax Media by the Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello.
"A minimum threshold of $10 has also been applied. The application of this threshold will leave a surplus of approximately $2.5 million which the government will return to motorists by reducing next year's medical services levy," Mr Dominello said.
The CTP refund site has seen a huge volume of traffic, with refund claims now only available from 7pm to 7am on Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday.
