The State Government has thrown their support behind Meatco's multimillion dollar refurbishment and recommission of the Mildura Abattoir.
Officials have worked with the company to secure the project, which is estimated to create up to 80 jobs and generate exports of up to $32 million per year.
Meatco plans to process 6,000 sheep, lamb and goats per week at the local facility once it is reopened.
The carcasses are set to be supplied directly to Cedar Meats for exports.
Northern Victoria MP Mark Gepp has applauded the scheme, saying it's great news for the local economy and the entire Mallee region.
The reopening of the facility is expected to support more positions in support industries such as Road freight transport, service and maintenance providers.
Meatco expects the Mildura facility will be reopened in coming months.
