MDAS Mental Health Program Taking Shape

A helping hand for those in need..

MDAS Mental Health Program Taking Shape

A new mental health program for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders is close to being launched, with Mallee District Aboriginal Services facilitating the program.

The target group of the initiative is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 16 to 64 years who are on a community corrections order or who regularly coming to the attention of police and are at risk of entering the justice system.

The initiative will deliver a culturally responsive mental health treatment for up to 180 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at any given time.

The demonstration project will be a collaborative therapeutic partnership between mental health clinicians, support workers, the person, and their families.

The project will be a part of the Mental Health Service offered from the MDAS Well being Hub.

MDAS Social and Emotional Well being Manager Raelene Stephens says they know there are people who are emerging leaders in the mental health field who will be excited by the prospect of driving change in their sector.
