There have been angry confrontations at some locked Cooper and Oxley sites, as workers struggle to retrieve their tools.
The commercial builder yesterday announced a halt to operations while its financial viability is assessed, forcing numerous working sites into lockdown.
A number of subcontracters at the Hay Street site in Subiaco have quarrelled over tools today, some busting their way through the fences to collect their belongings.
Premier Mark McGowan says it's an unfair situation.
"I thought locking the gates so people couldn't go and get their tools was pretty bad and I expect people would be very upset by that," Mr McGowan said.
"I don't know if it's lawful or not, but it struck me as a pretty rotten thing to do."
