A ferocious fire has destroyed popular Newcastle bar The Edwards.
Firefighters were called to Parry Street just after midnight, where they found the building completely engulfed in flames.
Crews were unable to get inside because the fire was so intense, while the roof ended up collapsing.
"The kitchen is in the centre of the building, and we're pretty sure that's where it started," Fire and Rescue inspector Peter Nies said.
The bar which opened in 2014 is owned by Silverchair bassist Chris Joannau.
At one stage the fire forced the closure of King Street in both directions.
