Stolen Taxi From John Hunter Hospital Used In Police Chase

The pursuit lasted 100km

A man's been charged after he allegedly stole a taxi from John Hunter Hospital and led police on a 100 kilometre high speed pursuit.

He caught the cab from Marketown to the hospital at around 4:00pm Wednesday afternoon.

As the driver got out to open the passenger's door, the accused hopped into the driver's seat and sped off.

Police later spotted the car at Hexham, with Highway Patrol initiating a pursuit near Raymond Terrace.

The chase reached high speeds on the Pacific Highway and finally came to an end at Coolongoolook near Forster.

The man was arrested and will face Forster Local Court today on several charges.

Police say today happens to be his 32nd birthday.
