The Air Force will be doing a practice run this morning of the aerial display for this weekend’s Newcastle 500.
RAAF pilot Flight Lieutenant Matt Trayling will perform some impressive manoeuvres in his F/A-18B Classic Hornet off the coast of Hawks Nest from about 10am.
"Residents are advised an excellent viewing platform would be along Mungo Brush Road between Piper’s Creek fire trail and Lloyd’s camp ground," the RAAF said in a statement.
As one of the Air Force’s fleet of fast-jet aircraft, the Hornet can reach speeds well in excess of 1000km/h.
Supercars fans will be treated to an aerial display before both races at the Newcastle 500 on Saturday and Sunday, at approximately 3pm.
