Police are investigating an incident at Morisset Park, where an elderly man invited five children into his car to pat his dog.

The kids - aged 8 to 12 - were playing in a park off Lakeview Road just after 3pm on Saturday when they were approached by a man in a car.

The children have told police the man, believed to be aged in his 70's, stopped his white Toyota Corolla near the park and invited them into his car to pat his dog.

The children declined and the man left the scene.

A witness contacted police and officers are now trying to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The elderly man has short grey hair and was wearing a dark-coloured long-sleeved shirt and reading glasses.

The dog was described as a small cream-coloured Chihuahua.

Additional police patrols are being conducted in the area.
