Lake Macquarie is getting its very first fenced-off dog park.
Work will start in the next few weeks on the dedicated dog area at Speers Point Park, as part of an overall upgrade
“For some time we have received requests from the community to provide a fenced dog park area to allow dog owners to exercise and socialise their dogs in an enclosed setting,” Lake Macquarie Council's John Ferguson said.
“It is hoped this new area will not only provide a space for dogs to exercise and play freely but will allow people to socialise, build a stronger community and encourage our residents to become more active as well.”
The fenced dog area, which will be approximately 10,000m2, will be located between Walters Park and Cockle Creek.
Council's also installing a central promenade and modern lighting, new shelters and accessible barbecues and amenities.
During construction, the majority of the park will remain open to the public with select areas closed off while works are taking place.
